We are proud to continue supporting this program which provides a crucial resource to restoration projects. Shell saved from landfills thanks to our now 18+ restaurant partners on LBI and the mainland, is picked up weekly by LBT. After 6 months of curing it is ready to be bagged for living shoreline projects and directed to spat on shell operations prior to finding its way to restoration reefs and leases.
To prep for the 2024 summer season JRF purchased 40 new toters to contain shell for area restaurants. If you're an LBI restaurant with oyster and or clam shell reach out to find out how you can start recycling.
This year, recently recycled shell that has cured for 6+ months has been divided between two new projects. The Ocean County Soil Conservation District COASTAL Grant (stay tuned for a blog on that one soon) and LBT's efforts to bolster erosion of the Clam Cove area.
